A converted barn with stunning panoramic sea views has gone on the market for the first time ever, with offers in excess of £3million.

The farm was owned by MP Sir Edward Hain, one of Cornwall's most prominent businessmen and politicians, for many years around the turn of the 19th century.

Property developer Phil Bradby bought Trowan, an abandoned mining hamlet, after spotting a 'for sale' sign while he was on holiday in Cornwall in 2003.

He spent years renovating the derelict former workers' cottages, as well as creating his own home from the shells of two Victorian barns.

The property has just under 1,800 sq ft of accommodation with an open plan kitchen/dining/sitting room at one end, a separate lounge in the middle and the bedrooms at the other end.

Mr Bradby, who is moving to be closer to family, said: 'Trowan Farm was originally two Victorian barns which we connected with a modern, zinc and glass building.

'To describe what we started with as buildings is probably an exaggeration, there were just the remains of a few granite walls.

'It was a long project which we did in stages; it took about ten years to finish everything and was very much a labour of love.

'The views of the ocean are spectacular. One thing that I love is that you can sit on the sofa in the morning and watch the sunrise over the ocean across St Ives Bay and then, in the evening, watch it set over the ocean towards Zennor. I've never had a house with such incredible sunrises and sunsets before.

'It's also not just a beautiful house but you have 35 acres of beautiful land too, with lush fields that roll down to the cliffs and 180-degree sea views.

'It is a home that will be desperately hard to let go of.'

Despite its seemingly remote location, the house has superfast broadband with a fibreoptic cable directly into the house and 4G mobile reception.

There is also planning permission for a new 39ft by 26ft barn and drainage, water, electricity and sewerage are already installed in preparation.

Jack Greenwood, from Lillicrap Chilcott, said: 'Trowan Farm is unlike anything I have ever seen or had the pleasure of dealing with before.

'Phrases like "once in a lifetime" and "unique" are often overused by estate agents when describing a property, but they are so true in this instance, this is a genuine one-off.

'The aspect and views are incredible. You can sit in the same spot in the living room, with the triple sliding doors on either side, and watch the sun rise and set, which is quite a feat.

'To have something coastal, on the cliff top like Trowan Farm, where you own that much land, is an incredibly rare thing.

'When you add in the fact that it is only a few moments from St Ives, one of Cornwall's most popular locations, that just adds to the scarcity factor.

'The owner had an amazing vision to create the property from two ruined barns which he joined together with the contemporary zinc-roofed sitting room.

'It's something that not many would have seen the potential in and what he has created is truly exceptional.

'It really is quite a special and important property.'
